wood bark star ornament

Wood bark star ornaments

These wood bark star ornaments were simple to make. I used real birch bark that I got from a friend but you can easily make them using bark scrapbook paper. They will cost you nothing if you have the items in your craft stash. If you don’t; twine and scrapbook paper are very cheap.

Make wood bark stars as ornaments or string them together on twine for garland. I made these during the covid lock down.

Here is what you need to make these adorable stars

Supplies:

  • Wood bark or scrapbook paper
  • Cotton balls or stuffing
  • Hot glue
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Paper or cardboard
  • Pencil

After I gathered all of my supplies the first thing I did was I made a star pattern to trace onto the bark. If you don’t want to draw one you can use a cookie cutter as a pattern.

Birch bark is amazing to work with. It didn’t crumble and was flexible to work with. I mentioned in the supply list using scrapbook paper that looks like bark will work perfectly fine.

I used paper that I had on hand to cut my star and I traced several stars on my bark. You can trace and cut as many as you want.

My first thought was to just make ornaments but I was having fun creating these and decided to make a garland for my fireplace. The garland could be hung on the tree as well.

Stuffing the stars and gluing them together is the next step. Using my glue gun I placed glue around half of the star and then filled it with stuffing before closing it up completely with the glue.

I didn’t have any stuffing so I used cotton balls. I pulled them apart so they were easy to place inside the corner areas of the star.

For an ornament, cut a piece of twine 4″ long and glue on one of the tips of the star. If you want to create a garland, cut the twine the length you want and hot glue the stars onto the twine at whatever distance apart that you find pleasing.

I placed my stars a few inches apart. If I would have made the garland for my tree, I would placed them further apart. And, of course, made more of them.

These wood bark star ornaments were fun to make and it was relaxing sitting by the fire creating Christmas cheer.
